As the director of education at CPBN, Paul’s goal is to help students improve their educational experience. “We’re looking to transform people’s lives,” says Pfeffer, who has been with CPBN for more than 30 years. “We’re helping people learn new skills as adult learners looking to expand their technical abilities or as high school students looking to find out more about who they are and where they want to go.”
He continues: “The main thing we do, in everything we do, is teach people how to tell a story. Technology is always changing, distribution is always changing — what remains is the essential need for compelling and accurate storytelling.”
Paul graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a B.A. in English and a minor in communications. He completed additional screenwriting, audio and video training courses at Fairfield University, Snow Sound and Downtown Community Television Center (DCTV) in New York.
Paul has been nominated for and won many local, regional and national awards for his excellence in writing, producing and directing. He is most well-known for his national promotion for the children’s show “Barney and Friends,” which contributed to the most successful launch of a children’s program in the history of public television. He also launched CPTV’s first blogs, podcasts, online chats, streaming media, as well as YouTube, Facebook and Flickr channels.
In addition to his numerous projects at CPBN, Paul has worked with ESPN, Madison Square Garden Productions, Phil Donohue, the National Theatre of the Deaf, WCCO-TV and the Nightly Business Report.
Despite his professional achievements, Paul considers meeting his wife to be the highlight of his career. While he was working as audio director of a music program, Paul became concerned that the clarinet player was heavily perspiring under the hot studio lights. He asked the floor manager to give her some powder so “she would look her best” on the video they were producing. Those were the first words, Nyomi, the clarinetist heard him say. They have been married for 28 years.
